Hi, I’m Jasmine Issa, a mum, a wife, a daughter, a sister, an aunty, a friend, a social worker, an ordinary person with an extraordinary dream to make people smile.
In June 2015, I was contacted by a customer through my small online gift service. This customer ordered a custom hamper for her friend, Gina, who was told that her 2 year old son, Yianni was given 1 year to live. He had a rare and unknown condition, which was never diagnosed. She wanted to make her friend smile during such a difficult time, and wasn’t sure how to do it so asked for my help. I was so honored and moved by this request, and I asked permission to create something super special for this family by promoting this story on social media and request donations from businesses. The response was incredible. Donations poured in from various businesses in the form of products and vouchers.
Sadly, as the box was being created, Yianni passed away on 15th July 2015. I was so heartbroken that I didn’t get this gift to her in time, or that I never got to meet her angel. After giving Gina some time to grieve, I provided this box to Gina as a comfort box to help her get through this very dark time.
This was the response we received from dear Gina after receiving her box:
My name is Gina, Angela contacted you with regards to my son Yianni.
I want to say thank you for doing what you do. I have had a lot of ups and downs over the last few weeks and today was a down day, I caught up with Angela this morning and she handed me this amazing box that said ‘Stars don’t shine without darkness’, even though my tears were running down my cheeks it lifted me up for the rest of the day…
Thank you for your beautiful words in your note and I want to thank everyone that not only contributed but everyone that took the time to read about our story.
Our little angel had a heart of gold and even though he was only with us for 2 years he has changed me forever, his willpower and strength will be my inspiration, and if his story can tug some heart strings (as you said) this world will be a better place, and his short life will make an amazing impact.
Thank you again.
This was a life changing experience for me. I loved making Gina smile and giving her some comfort during a very difficult time, so I wanted to keep going. Hence Project Generosity was born. Yianni means “God is generous”, and Yianni will always remain at the heart of what we do. He is our inspiration, and we know with him watching over us from heaven, he will help us make many more families and people smile. My only regret is never having the honour of meeting that special guy.
The inspiration behind our logo. Holding onto Yianni’s hand gave Gina strength.
The perfect little smile ambassador
